Humidity Control, Dehumidification & Mold Remediation Solutions

Crawlspace moisture problems are common in Boston, Springfield and surrounding areas, so safeguard your house and change your crawlspace into a functional space that will increase the value of your home. We use advanced water and moisture management products and techniques to keep the crawlspace dry permanently.

Dirt crawl spaces have the tendency to harbor excessive amounts of moisture and frequently restrict the homeowners use of the square footage for storage. Foundation Pros installs a 20-mil polyethylene vapor barrier that locks moisture and mold out. Our permanent solution will transform an ugly, dirty crawlspace into a clean, dry functional space for storage. You’ll also find that crawl space encapsulation is cheaper than having a traditional concrete floor installed.

Understanding Humidity & Moisture in your Crawl space

A Moist, Wet, Humid Crawl space Will Affect Your Health & Home

The number one enemy of your crawl space is humidity. Unfortunately, homeowners have been taught that opening the vents under the home will resolve the moisture problems. In fact crawl space vents are one of the main causes for humidity and moisture problems.

So, why do they build homes with crawl space vents?

The answer is that vents installed to allow the moisture in the crawlspace to escape. The problem with this concept is that the air flows upwards in your home instead of outward. This means that the air in the crawlspace is spread into the home and becomes part of the air you breathe.

When is the last time you inspected your crawl space?

If you haven’t done so, it might be time. Most people don’t know that they are living above mold and mildew. Your crawl space could look like this….

Solutions For Problems Associated with a Wet, Damp Crawl space

The best ways to maintain a Dry & Healthy Home

To begin with, you’ll want to bring in a qualified professional to evaluate the area and identify the source of your problem.

Most crawl spaces have a dirt floor, if that is the case with yours, it isn’t sealed from the outside. Outside elements will most likely be living beneath your home. Keep in mind that the air underneath your home will find its way up into your living areas.

Moisture control is important to manage – as moisture and humidity create the perfect environment for mold, dust mites, and other organisms. Crawl space waterproofing is an important step to take in protecting your home from costly problems in the future.

Encapsulation System – Vapor Barrier

As opposed to letting moisture in and then trying to eliminate it, a vapor barrier isolates a house from the earth entirely so the humidity never gets in there to begin with. This method known as crawl space encapsulation will also stop bugs and other critters from getting into a crawlspace while lowering, or in some cases even removing mold growth and rot. A vapor barrier will also transform any crawlspace into a dry, functional, healthy space. Our vapor barrier is a 20-mil thick liner set up across the floor of the crawlspace, then mechanically attached to the walls. We also seal the vents, which keeps the damp, wet air from entering.

Wetness Control –  Dehumidification

The American Lung Association and the EPA advise homeowners to keep the humidity level in the 30% to 50% range. Proper ventilation and air conditioning are not always enough to provide the protection needed. A good high capacity dehumidifer will protect your family and your biggest investment – your home.

Crawl space Support Systems

A variety of cosmetic and structural problems can be triggered from the damage moisture and mold can do to the support beams in your crawlspace. When crawlspaces are constructed, beams and columns are installed called load bearing. Because of this the crawl space is designed to hold the load from the house above. Over time mold, rot and moisture can weaken the supports causing the floor above to be spongy, sag or become unlevel. When this happens support beams are needed to help hold up the floor. We use a supplemental jack system that will stabilize the floor joists and support beams.
